Do you think we are best-friends forever?

A few weeks ago I met the mother of one of my kid's friends. I'm not sure what exactly was going on in my life that day but it is a safe bet to say that when I left my house, I left dirty dishes in the sink, unwashed laundry everywhere, clean laundry everywhere, various dirt piles frolicking to and fro, and a to-do list so long it would make a good novel.

Now this woman seemed nice and I am thinking how great it would be to have another friend. You can never have too many of those. Yes, she looked a little too put together but that was in comparison to me -wearing the same Old Navy jeans I must have had on for three days because my grocery list was in the back pocket and three days ago is when I shopped. And those small stains on my shirt - those are from drinking iced tea as I drive through life.

So, back to this woman. I am enjoying talking with her and thinking we should have their family over sometime when she turns to me and says, "My husband and I are really going to have to find some new hobbies. He was off yesterday and we were so bored. I had the house completely cleaned and organized and had nothing to do."

Then, in my mind the scene went a little fuzzy like in a movie and we were in slow motion. I was some wonderful cross between a hero in the Matrix and one in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And the pain and misery I inflicted on that woman in my mind was wonderfully freeing. It only lasted a few seconds before I came back to reality, but what a rush.

So, this is how I make friends. How about you?

I'm loving your posts, probably because I'm a 46 year-old mom of 21, 19 and 15 year old. I enjoy reading people who are near my age. Love your wit.

Love your blog!! You are too funny. I don't think I will ever get to the day where my life and home are so organized and clean that I have nothing to do. If you ever get to visit with her, take pics so we can all see. LOL

very funny (i can so relate)! and you're right... the post was very "so by the way..." as if you were sitting with us readers at your kitchen table, drinking tea. but that is still so your style today (i guess aug wasn't too long ago).

maybe in another year, we could do a 5th post friday, to shake things up a bit.
