Fashion in the Suburbs

As I was sashaying through my blogroll the other day, I happened upon an interview that one of my favorite bloggers, Laura from Under the Sheets, had done. Laura had interviewed a blogger named Couture Carrie while Carrie had asked Laura the same questions. I enjoyed these questions so much, I asked Laura if I could borrow them, Suburb Sanity style. Lovely Laura acquiesced. So, I now will invite you to journey with me through Fashion in The Suburbs.

1)Who is your fashion icon?
Of course, Daisy Duke immediately comes to mind. Nobody could rock those short shorts and tied off tops like that gal.Surprisingly, this look is not as easy to achieve after 4 babies and a vertical cesarean incision as you would imagine. Although Barbara looks like she is rocking this well into middle age.

2)What piece of clothing could you not live without?
You know those times you are stuck waiting in the carpool line and hunger sets in? Sure, you have a sack of french fries and a few other munchies but they are just so plain. They need a little something - a kick so to speak. Those are the times I have found this little number to be irreplaceable.
Beauty and practicality. Now that is a combo that can't miss in my book.
Oh, and it is perfect for the current grilling season.

3)What is your definition of Couture?
Couture: n. from the Latin root overpricedius. Def: Clothing that looks good for 24 hours but will have you paying on your credit card for 24 months. Example: After she bought that couture and went into debt, she has been trying to eat off of my food shirt for the last year and a half.

4)Your thoughts on east vs. west coast style.
I think the Beach Boys really summed it up best when they said, "Oh the east coast girls have hips but the west coast girls fake tan".

5)Your advice on how to be comfortable in your own skin.
Is this some sort of bizarre reference to Silence of the Lambs? Because if so, I have a great true story to tell about that. When Silence of the Lambs was released on VCR (yes, pre-DVD days), hubby and I rented it. It scared the bejeebees out of us and we didn't even go to the bathroom alone for days. We made the other one go with us. Now that was one scary movie. I shudder to even think of that.

6)Where do you get your inspiration for your posts?
The exact same place you all do - those lovely voices in my head. Mine look like this:
I'm sure yours look similar.

7)How would you rock out on the catwalk?
I'd want something low-key, something normal, something that would not draw unnecessary attention to me, something I could see myself wearing to Kroger. Something like this:
8)Specific pieces for East Tennessee.
Oh, I know the rumors. That we are uncivilized, uncouth clan. Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, we are just like the rest of you all. We even have our informal and formal attire.
Here is the informal.

And then for those special occasions:

Is it wrong that I think I might want a Tabasco necklace?

Silence of the Lambs. shiver. I saw it in the theater but was living alone at the time and went home late in my chubby body with an excellent amount of skin on it to an empty apartment. I called the friend I'd seen it with - who also lived alone - and we stayed on the phone all night. Creeeeeeepy stuff!

Audrey said...

OMG...buddy in the overalls is a keeper, for sure! And lucky lady who married the cutey in the last pic!
As always, your post made me laugh. And there is nothing wrong with laughter!

I wonder what Tim and Heidi would say about that runway disaster... I think that designer would be "out" even if he/she was up against the dude in the cut out overalls.

Those overalls would make such a wonderful maternity outfit! And the necklas would definitely come in handy for tailgating! Thanks for a great laugh!

I am pleased to report that I have never seen The Silence of the Lambs. I've seen a snippet, here and there, but never the whole movie - and based on what I read today, a snippet will do me just fine. I do like the mask, though. Very chic.

Michelle said...

Thanks for the laugh and reminding me of how much Silence of the Lambs scared me.

I saw it at a friends and I almost refused to drive home I was so scared. It was one of those nights when the fog was so thick you could barely see!!!

Greg C said...

You rock girl. I think we are the same person. I think I may go home tonight and put on my bibbed overalls with nothing else and have a beer on that couch in our front yard. That movie scared the poo out of me too. I was going to have my teeth fixed but on second though I am just going to let them all rot out.

You got me cacklin' like an old hen over here. LOVED every one.

The gut-less overalls reminded me of my ass-less hip-waders, I gotta meet that guy!

And loved "sashaying" through my blogroll. Great verb.

Oh, and the Silence of the Lambs part reminded me that when I was a kid and first saw Jaws, I was too scared to SIT on the toilet.

And I've got a CD give-away going on my blog now, you might want to mosey on over there by Monday at 8:00 Central Time.

I don't have voices in my head, just the chaotic roar of pigs fighting.

It's hard to see clearly from my phone but is that tabasco sauce hanging on that top? No matter how hungry I was I doubt I would use it!

Above Average Joe said...

I wonder if the pregnant bride wants the beer-bellied guy's overalls.

Counselormama said...

That overall pic is hilarious! I just texted a friend of mine this morning (before I read this) and asked her, what is this quote from?

Michelle said...

He He Ha Ha! These are great. I love the gadget with all the food attached. I sure could use one of those for my kid. She's always asking for something to eat and I'm always digging in my purse. This would make life so much easier. LOL! Hope you have a great weekend Debbie!

Wendy Kae said...

I think it's the teeth that make the outfits "special" for the occasion.

FrankandMary said...

Oh sure. Like anyone is going to do that now that you took(thought up) all the best answers. I read an article years ago about how the Daisy of TV series fame almost killed herself with dehydration from all the water pills she took to aid her weight loss once she felt eating almost nothing wasn't enough. So maybe it isn't all that attainable for women pre-baby either. I take innocent pleasure in small things, like that snack shirt.~Mary

Debbie said...

I guess I'm suppose to act shocked. OK. Here goes: "Oh goodness! What were they thinking?"----I'm not going to mention the fact that I see people that look just like these people walking around in my local Wal-Mart. And I don't live in Tennesse. Hilarious post, by the way!

Kathleen @ ForgingAhead said...

How ever do you find these oh so scary photos? Frightening.

Heidi Ashworth said...

My neice married a country boy from the wilds of Missouri. He's a right fine young man but some of his relatives wore over-alls over bare skin to the wedding reception (no peekaboo holes in them, though, thank goodness!).

Mandala Michelle said...

The guy in the overalls put me over the top. Thanks or the laugh!

Krystyn said...

If only they could have combined the overalls with the wedding dress!

I actually saw a prom dress with a cut out for a preggo belly. Ewww.

Too funny.
What's the deal with the overalls anyway? If he was hot he could have just worn jeans and no shirt right? Or just the overalls without a shirt?
Maybe this will be the next big look in maternity wear...
