Vacation - it's all I ever wanted

I just returned from a wonderful week at the beach with my family. There's nothing like a vacation from laundry, shopping, cooking, and cleaning to really put the vroom back into a mom. Oh, wait a minute. All those things go with us.
Nevermind.

Don't fear. I still had a fabulous time. My oldest kids have worked so hard this summer and it was great to all be on a relaxed schedule. And yes, they ate lots of sugary cereals. In fact, I cleared the shelves of the store brand Lucky Charms. Every. Single. Box. Of course, the kids then fought over who could eat the Toaster Strudel but that is beside the point.
The highlight of our trip occurred Wednesday night around 10:00 p.m. when the sea turtle nest located directly in front our condo hatched. 124 baby sea turtles made their way down to the sea. And were they cute? Oh my goodness. They were so darn adorable. Hard to believe those little things will grow up to be 500 - 800 pounds. (And yes, these are my own photos of turtles.)
Then, two days later right as we were heading in for the day, the volunteers came by to dismantle the protection they had placed around the nest. They also dug out the egg shells to get a firm count. What else did they find? 6 babies that hadn't made their way out of the nest. Lucky us. We then got to watch them, and photograph them, in broad daylight.
Now we are back and my youngest kids are back to school today. Yes, it is way too early. I'm behind about 2000 posts on my google reader (forgive me if I haven't been by) and my laptop is newly broken.Back to reality. Which does bite, by the way.

Wow, school already? I haven't even filled out my kids' registration forms yet, I'd better get on that.

Welcome back!

We just got back from the beach too but we didn't have baby turtles. How awesome to see their trek to the sea. Don't you wish sometimes it was that easy with our kids? Go along your way to the big blue ocean and fend for yourselves. ha!

Back to school - argh. So not ready for summer to end.

How cool that you got to see the turtles!

Back to school on August 3?!? Seriously, that is just plain wrong. I hope they get out in early May.

Where I live, if you add up the number of school days off the kids have during the school year, it comes out to 2 months.

I have always wanted to see the baby turtle races. When I firstsaw it on an episode of "The Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" circa 1975, I put that on my must-do before I die list! You are sooo lucky!

Why did the turtle cross the road? To get to the other side just so Debbie could photograph it and share it with her readers. Awww, soooo cute! I'm glad you had a wonderful time. It's nice to have you back.

How amazing to be there when those turtles hatched out...such a rare opportunity! Glad you're home safe :)

Where did you go on vacation? Jeykll Island GA. has a big sea turtle population and protection program. My GRANDs love going there and to the beach. Our kids start School on Thursday. I don't even have a dog in this fight but I hate that they go back this early. It sucks!

I love the sea turtles journey. They are really interesting. School already? Summer has flown by.

Welcome back...bummer on the computer probs. How cool are those turtles! Glad the kiddos got to binge on the sugary cereal...in Amish Country at a bulk store they sold bags of Lucky Charms marshmallows...no annoying cereal getting in the way! LOL

Those baby turtles are so cute. I'll bet they don't eat sugary breakfast cereals.

With the misfortunate events that occurred this summer, we didn't get to take a vacation, so I feel like I've been virtually relaxing via news of all of my bloggy friends vacations (how's that for a run on sentence)? Anyhoo- The baby turtles are so cool, neat that you got to experience nature like that. Glad you had a good time!

Oh the turtles - so sweet ! Sea turtles are my thing ! Since I was a young girl, I have fantasized about being able to climb aboard a giant sea turtle's back, hold on tight and swim through the ocean and get a turtle's eye view of it all...
Back to reality is right ! School at the beginning of August just seems wrong ! Hope yur computer woes are short lived !

Baby turtles hatching! How lucky!! My kids only eat sugary cereal AND toaster strudel on vacay, too! I think they like that better than all the sights and unique activities!

How very cool seeing the turtles. But back to school already? I thought August 17, when my youngest daughter starts back, was too early. I remember when school never started up again until right after Labor Day weekend.

How completely exciting to watch the turtles! Once in a lifetime thing, methinks.

Your kids are back to school already???

When we lived in Puerto Rico, our scout camp one year involved going to a protected beach and helping the BLM count the turtles as they hatched. Fabulous experience for my son!

And please tell me you got that picture of the computer off the internet and not off your living room floor, because it's heartbreaking!

AND...kids back in school already? Where do I sign up for THAT little slice o' heaven??

Welcome home.

Life with Kaishon said...

Your kids started school already? Oh Debbie! Say it aint so. That is crazy. We have one more month and I am SO thankful for it. I just am not ready for school at all. Kaish hates it so much. It's very discouraging. I thought he might need to learn in a different environment so I called up the local Friends school. $13,000 a year and some change. Gary said NO WAY. Kaish said he would miss his friends. Since that is a little less than half of what I earn in a year, I guess we won't be going that route. If you think about it, pray for me : ) While you are doing laundry and putting your life all back together : ).
