Putting a Little More Reality into TV

With the rumor going around that Howard Stern may become a judge on American Idol when Simon leaves, many parents were outraged.
I'm confused. To me, nothing says "family television" quite like Howard Stern. Isn't he called "The Shock Jock"? I don't really understand why everyone wouldn't want to gather little Bobby and Susie in front of the TV to see, and more importantly, hear Howard Stern. Frankly, I'm shocked he wasn't on there before. Seems like a natural fit to me. I've always thought his work was right up there with Mister Rogers and The Wiggles.

Plus, and here's the bonus so many parents are overlooking, no more need to have that uncomfortable sex talk with Junior. Good old Uncle Howard will provide all the information any impressionable youth could ever need. Now that is good news. No more saying, "Go ask your father" - you can just say, "Let's see what Howard has to say about that tonight on AI." Plus, chances are good he will have a little show and tell which always adds so much to a lesson.

With this casting brilliance, I think it is only a matter of time before other shows catch on.

The cast of Jersey Shore on Sesame Street?
John Edwards on Family Guy?I also think a spin off of Gossip Girl titled Gossip Guy and staring John Mayer would be a smash hit.But really, the best casting ever has to be on Jerry Seinfeld's new show, The Marriage Ref. Tiger said he was ready for a comeback. This one is tailor made for him.

Now thats some funny TV....I'd watch all but Mayer..just cant take him at all....I kinda like Howard, but I just dont see the idol connection..I heard that Ellen said if he joins..shes outta there...so in return Howard ran a few not so flattering reviews about how it is to work for Ellen...I dont know but I think it may be the end of the road for Idol..

Oh that is very funny! I don't think those kids would be ready for even more truth out of a judge!
I am a new Friday Follower, hope to see you too!

I don't currently watch AI, but if Howard Stern were on, I would watch at least once. That would be it though. But it is one more time than I have watched yet.

I do watch AI ,and if Howard Stern were on it, I would have a really hard time watching. That man is a cockroach for sure!

Howard Stern on Idol? That may be a deal breaker for me. He is such a creep. Love the rest of your list. Cracked me up.

Eva Gallant said...

Howard Stern would be the end of my watching Idol, too. Creep is too kind a word.

Why not put all those people together for one big ultimate reality show? Call it something like "Sleeze and tease" - all the celebrities that you wish would go away but keep coming back to haunt you!

Jeanie said...

If things don't go well for him on American Idol I'd like to see Howard as the new guy in The Wiggles.

Amy said...

This was a great post. It made me laugh. I wonder how many of these would be true??

Have a great weekend.

Me, Myself and Pie said...

hahaha. Let's hope that doesn't happen! That would take the show for a turn alright!

Mari said...

You've got it all figured out! Why didn't they think of that?
Seriously - what are they thinking? I think it's the death of American Idol!

Hi saw you on SITS! Yea, that would be quite an interesting combo of judges on American Idol wouldn't it? Love your humor.

ROFL!!!

You know, it is all about the ratings and if Stern is on the show the ratings will skyrocket. Kinda sad, our society.

Cannot stand that man. I'd watch all the shows you thought up thought ;-)

TechnoBabe said...

Gag me with a snow shovel!! Howard WTF Stern???? I know you are joking, and I do like the way you wrote this.
John Mayer probably learned his speech from Mr. Stern, they are two of a kind and little Johnny probably grew up on the Stern mouth. So there is your example.

Barbaloot said...

I just don't see how people can take the show seriously now as a talent show. I mean, Simon was mean but he knew what he was doing. With Ellen and now Howard on there they're clearly doing it for shock and laughs-not for talent.

Jeni said...

Sure does boggle the mind, doesn't it? And my mind is already boggled enough that I don't need any new crapola floating around in there along these lines.

LOL! I love these posts by you. Tiger Woods as the Marriage Ref...yeah, I'd tune in for that one!

LOL. Let's face it, Howard Stern DOES NOT have a face or personality made for TV. YUCK!

Mister Rogers is probably turning over in his grave!

Scrappy Girl said...

John Edwards Family Guy is my favorite! LOL!

I wanted to think of one...ok...hmmm...I know let's replace Jo on supernanny with Jon Gossellin...heehee.

And on the AI thingy...Let 'em put Howard on...it'll just add to the weight on the sinking ship.

Kasha said...

Exactly Debbie! I'm already ahead of the game. Instead of plopping my one year old in front of Baby Einstein I turn on the old Sirius radio to HOward Stern. I figure the vocabulary is much more colorful and the topics are so helpful in raising today's youth. I love your blog! Im so flattered you stopped by mine.

Personally, I hate Howard Stern, but I would probably watch American Idol just to see him as a judge.

But I think Tiger Woods might be more suited for The Bachelor.

Angie Muresan said...

I always thought so too. Of course, he's the perfect fit, he can ogle all the pretty girls and ask them to take off their clothes before he decides whether they should go on to Hollywood or not.

John Edwards would be a shoe-in!!! He's already got two families at once :D

LOL Thanks for the giggle. I have to admit I will be one of the Moms who tunes out if they put Howard in one of those Judges seats. That guy should not be judging anyone!

I see the addition of Howard Stern to AI as absolutely appropriate. I think both of them - the man and the show - are vile. (But as a voice teacher, I have a legitimate grievance against AI...)

I Love the way your mind works!
I've always been an AI fan, but I'm thinkin' it's on it's way out. I don't think Ellen is gettin' it done. So we may not even need to bother "Uncle Howard" with this new gig.

Kathleen @ ForgingAhead said...

Ha! You're both funny and brilliant!

septembermom said...

Too funny. It really is an outrageous idea for Howard to be on it. I heard that Simon said that it would be a really big long shot. I want to see Tiger on Dr. Phil's show. Wouldn't that be an interview with Dr. Phil hammering away at him?

w said...

howard stern would be as drunk as paula abduhl. so. i guess it all evens out since she's gone.

Tracie said...

This was hysterical.

Hubs and I were talking about Howard and AI at dinner. He thinks it is a contract negotiation ploy for Howard. AI would probably gain a new demographic of viewers if he went on there. But surely they would lose a bunch too.

Brenda said...

You are so funny. I am enjoying Ellen on AI although I don't know about Howard Stern. Tiger Woods may be the easiest man to make fun of right now (well deserved) along with Jon G.

J.J. said...

I wonder how old Howard Stern would look if he had a "regular" haircut for a dude his age :)

Alicia said...

lol....if howard stern is on AI i'm canceling cable for good. actually, i don't watch that show anyway, so come to think of it....he'd be perfect for it :)

Laura said...

This was so much fun to read this morning.
I will laugh all day thinking about it.
Howard Stern is a scary, twisted dude.

Queenie Jeannie said...

LOL!!

Without Simon and Paula, there is no show. Everyone will be watching Simon's new show and that will be the end of it.

Teresa @ Grammy Girlfriend said...

That was great and so true

Debbie said...

i love visiting your blog! this is so funny but let's hope none of it happens! Howard on a family tv show? Ugh!

sarah said...

Oh come on... Howie oozes wholesome!

I actually love Howard Stern, and he might actually know what he's talking about, the man is actually very smart....BUT I just don't think I could take him seriously as an idol judge seeing as how I've seen him humminhg to a woman over the radio..... infamous scene in Private Parts.......nuff said.

Tiger on the Marriage Ref... I love it! I'm actually looking forward to that show!

I don't really care of Howard Stern, but if he replaces Simon, I would watch just to see how it goes.

As for Tiger and Mayer - I don't care about anything they have to say.

Joanna Jenkins said...

This is the first I've heard of that but it makes perfect sense to hype American Idol with Howard (yuck) Stern. It would almost be worth watching to see him and Ellen side by side. That would not be pretty.

The Marriage Ref promos look good. Tiger Woods would be a hoot!

Hope all's well with you Debbie.

I just read today (because I'm a week late stopping by here), that Howard Stern absolutely WILL NOT be replacing Simon.

Guess we'll have to that sex talk with the kids ourselves, darnit.
