You're Fired

A school board in Rhode Island took the unusual position this week of deciding to fire all 74 teachers and 19 staff members at Central Falls High School. The school board superintendent said the move was necessary since the school was underachieving and there was "callous disregard" on the part of the teacher's union.I don't live in Rhode Island so I can't speak directly to this case. Schools in horrible areas tend to put too much pressure on their teachers to cure all the ills. However, I do love the whole idea of firing a group of people. Let's expand this brave new move to other areas, shall we?

First, congress. Nothing controversial there I am assuming. Let's fire every single one of them. Change the locks on the doors. We own the doors, don't we? Start fresh. Personally, I'd vote for a several of you all. I read what you write, I know where you stand, I know how you think. You'd do a heck of better job that the nut jobs we have in there now.Second, Toyota. Even if your last name is similar to the car company - you are so out of there. I mean, even I would have a hard time trying to ruin the number one performing car company and I don't have any experience in automotives or business. Yet these guys seem to have ruined that company without trying. They are gone.Next, the insurance people. Doesn't it seem like all we do is pay premiums for a zillion different kinds of insurance and then when we need to use it, they don't let us? I say get rid of them and start over.Likewise, the IRS. I'd like to fire everyone there and go back and fire the ones that used to be there and have already left. Who let it get this complicated and convoluted? Fire them, burn those insane rules, and start fresh. The cast of Jersey Shore, The Kardashians, and that Playboy Girl Next Door show. It just irks me that these people have jobs when so many good, smart people are out of work. I think I'd just feel better firing them.Actually, I do feel better already just thinking about cleaning all this up. How about you? Who would you like to fire?

YES YES YES!!! Quite possibly my most.favorite.post.ever! Can we fire the middle east too? :)

Great list! Except I go crazy every time I see the Nat'l Highway Safety Committee talk about Toyota. People have died and homes lost from Fords catching fire and no one brought that out into the limelight. No one apologized.

Of course we need to fire all the top AND mid level people in any of the bailout banks. And any of them that got a bonus need to be fired and denied unemployment.

We also need to fire anyone related to overseeing medicare and military health insurance. Of course. Medicaid patients get treated better than our vets.

I am a former teacher. I will remain a former teacher, at least as far as teaching in the formal education system. I would rather work for minumum wage at Walmart than teach again in the system - at least Walmart has an Employee of the Month program where hard working employees get recognized.
Our kids deserve more, and the people who have dedicated themselves to those kids do too.

Haha I love it! Let's fire the Mom in Cali who had all the dictionaries removed from a school district because they contained the words "oral sex" in them too, and while we're at it fire the school board for listening to her.

Oh and Facebook!! I don't know who's running it, but who ever had the bright idea to change it's set up 3 times in a year needs to GO, so does anyone who helped make that happen!!

Thanks for following me, I'm returning the favor :)

Do you know how the tax code is written? A congressional committee gets together and decides that some group needs a tax break or a tax hike. They spend days in a closed room talking about it, with a tax guy listening. He comes back with a piece of code: "Is this what you meant?" They read it, make changes, he brings it back... it's so awful.

Thank you to all who have noticed the negative slant towards Toyota. MMM. Wonder if that is because GM Is now Government Motors?
My husband works in the auto industry and has pulled records. There are more issues and recalls on ALL of the American made cars than what occured here. And Ford has ALWAYS had issues with it's transmissions and never had them recalled.
Points of fact:
1) Did you know there are two versions of Toyota? One made in America with AMERICAN made parts. One from Japan with all Japanese parts. There are no issues on the Japanese versions AT ALL.
2) In regards to the cars that had issues with the gas pedal and mats. This was because they put aftermarket mats in the vehicles that got caught on the pedal.
Sorry everyone. I could go on and on. I will get off the soapbox now.

Oh, man, that mass-teachers firing in Rhode Island was great. Those teachers were making $72k+ per year while 50% of their students are failing all of their classes, and the drop-out rate is over 50%. And all this in a town where the median income is $22k.

The sandspur? Teachers refused to lengthen their teaching day an extra hour or two for extra hourly compensation at the rate of $30.00 bucks an hour.

I first read about this brave superintendent on Mike Shedlock's blog -- he's got a great econblog -- and now here it is again. Yaay. Spread the word, girl.

The unions are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. I'm glad someone is finally handing them the scissors.

Err, sorry, I sort of hijacked your comment section!

I do live in RI and firing those teachers was the best possible move. Unfortunately the teachers are paying for a decision made by their union. I'm sure there are lots of dedicated teachers in the group that was fired and up to half of them can be hired back. I hope they are. In the meantime, the teachers need to stand up to their union and tell them they ARE willing to work an extra 25 minutes a day, have more planning time, and more training. It's the union that said NO. Shame on the union and shame on the teachers for not standing up to them. The citizens of RI are tired being ruled by unions. And now we've made that loud and clear.
